Physicist, scientist and engineer — curious about how things work, from complex fluids and laser systems to medical technology and the transfer of ideas into practice.

Portrait of Dr. Ireneusz Iwanowski

The Person Behind the Physics

My professional path has taken me from fundamental research to industrial engineering, medical technology and innovation management. What connects these fields is a lasting interest in understanding problems, testing ideas and making useful things work.

My curiosity does not stop at the laboratory door. Some interests lead me deeper into mathematics and physics; others involve engines, electronics, forests or the occasional journey aboard a starship.

My Journey

A short scientific and professional biography — rather than a formal CV.

  1. Origins — Poland & Germany. Born in Żary, Poland, in 1977; later moved to Germany.
  2. Physics — University of Göttingen. Studied physics and earned a doctorate in natural sciences, investigating critical dynamics in complex fluids using methods including ultrasonic spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering.
  3. Postdoctoral research — Germany & Canada. Continued research in soft matter physics, biophysics and photonics.
  4. Laser technology & photonics. Worked on industrial laser systems, optical engineering, beam characterization, software and technical management.
  5. Medical technology. Contributed to medical device development and clinical evaluation, bringing physics, engineering and regulatory requirements together.
  6. Patents, innovation & technology transfer. Worked on invention assessment, intellectual property and the practical transfer of research ideas.

Scientific Interests

Science is more than a profession for me. I also enjoy exploring questions beyond my day-to-day work.

  • Mathematics: game theory and non-Euclidean geometry.
  • Theoretical physics: special and general relativity.
  • Computer science: neural networks and programming.

Beyond Science

  • Mixed martial arts (MMA).
  • Classic American cars and working on oldtimers.
  • Mushroom foraging.
  • Electronics and hands-on experimentation.
  • Star Trek — from fiction to function: creating real-world facsimiles of imagined technology, from tricorders to LCARS-inspired data consoles.

“Awakening Star Trek technology — one prototype at a time.”
